As a Sr. Consulting DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-quality solutions that meet the unique requirements of our clients in the Fortune 1000. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to ensure the successful execution of agile projects.  

 

This role will report to the Manager of Digital Professional Services within the Stratascale department.

 

This position is remote with a Home Office setup as determined by Stratascale management.

Responsibilities

Include, but not limited to:  

  • Architecting and implementing scalable and robust solutions using cloud-native services  
  • Implementing DevOps / DevSecOps platforms 
  • Extensive experience at the enterprise level with Terraform, including authoring bespoke modules, leveraging variables, and management of state. 
  • Extensive experience at the enterprise level with GitLab, including implementing best practices for branching mechanisms, pull/merge request flows, code reviews, and quality gates.  
  • Security best practices with CICD supply chain with in-depth knowledge of Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment & Delivery, and Release features. 
  • Integrating third party tools OKTA, AD etc with DevOps CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Extensive experience with scaleable runner environments for CI/CD. 
  • Experience with SRE practices and integration of DevOps with observability tools  
  • Planning and executing large-scale multi-workload application migrations to Public Cloud following multiple migration patterns (e.g., Rehost, Re-platform, Refactor). 
  • Collaborating directly with client stakeholders at multiple levels to understand their technical needs and translating them into user stories and detailed requirements while operating within the bounds of a defined Statement of Work (SOW). 
  • Utilizing GCP cloud platform to architect and deploy solutions that are scalable, secure, and highly available. 
  • Providing technical leadership to junior engineers (internal and partner) on best practices, well-architected principles, and cloud service capabilities/limitations with ownership of the overall quality of the delivered solution. 
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and contributing to the continuous enhancement of development practices. 
  • Developing reusable blueprints, templates, scaffolding, and runbooks to streamline and automate common repeated activities and solutions in client projects. 
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation within the team. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years minimum experience in cloud, platform engineering, DevOps, and operations with proven track record building complex applications for clients 
  • Strong understanding of cloud services architecture, design patterns, and best practices on the GCP platform
  • Extensive experience authoring Terraform cloud automation code
  • Extensive experience with GitLab and CI/CD processes and integrations

Required Skills

  • Deep hands-on technical experience building bespoke infrastructure automation solutions using Terraform.  
  • Deep hands-on technical experience with GitLab including architecting solutions for clients, migration planning & execution, code review and approvals, integration with 3rd party tools and security best practices. Additional experience with other repository systems (GitHub, Azure DevOps, etc.) is a plus.   
  • Deep hands-on technical skills with the GCP cloud platform including configuration management, architecture, migration planning and execution, cloud native application design, cloud networking, etc. Additional experience with AWS and/or Azure are a plus. 
  • Experience working in agile methodologies with agile project tools (Scrum, Kanban, Jira). 
  • Experience in several of the following domains: 
    • Cloud governance 
    • Cloud cost optimization / FinOps 
    • Observability experience, including monitoring, IT operations management, CMDB, SRE, etc. 
    • Containerization (Kubernetes, Packer, Docker) 
    • Event streaming and API management 
    • Application modernization / application development in Java, .NET, or other major enterprise language, with experience in AWS, Azure, or GCP native services (e.g., functions, managed databases) 
    • Familiarity with one or more databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, Cassandra 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Customer-obsessed mindset, demonstrating empathy and putting the client experience at the center of your work

Certifications Required

If one of the below mandatory certifications is not currently held, the successful candidate will to obtain at least one within 90 days of commencing the role: 

 

  • GCP - Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer 
  • GCP - Professional Cloud Architect 
  • GitLab Certified CI/CD Associate 
  • Terraform Associate 

Unique Requirements

  • Position requires travel (up to 10% annually) for internal meetings, partner meetings, tradeshows, and conferences. 
  • Periodically, the position may require travel (up to 40% annually) to deliver services onsite for client engagements. 

Additional Information

  • The estimated annual pay range for this position is $180,000 - $240,000 which includes a base salary and bonus. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
