The Opportunity

The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will provide leadership for activities that support applications in the production environment. The position will work with and provide mentoring to a highly technical, skilled team of support engineers to ensure application availability and a high level of performance. The role requires superior technical expertise with current technologies and the ongoing mastering of new application technologies. This position will lead and contribute to the creation of support plans and documentation and oversee support for internal IT projects to ensure delivery of high performance applications and reduced MTTx times.

Day in the Life

  • Support application integration projects and initiatives and lead and direct the day-to-day activities of the 24x7x365 operations team.

  • Lead team efforts to provide analysis and support for production issues for both on-premise and cloud-based applications and ensure all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met for all incidents.

  • Work with Application Development, QA, and Systems Engineers on application integration and deployment into on-premise environment and the cloud; be accountable for all applications meeting uptime requirements.

  • Oversee production level updates of all application code changes on all servers; ensure change control requirements are met.

  • Provide high-level assistance to implementation teams to resolve technology issues impacting successful completion of assigned projects.

  • Educate and provide mentorship to team on optimization and the tuning of applications and configurations for better performance and reliability.

  • Use subject matter expertise to develop and/or secure ad-hoc tools and utilities for use by operations staff, identify security issues in application code and design, identify opportunities for process improvements.

  • Oversee the identification of application root-cause problems and resolutions.

  • Provide direction to design, implement and maintain, the proper level of application monitoring to established Velera APM guidelines.

  • Analyze, review and make specific recommendations to IT management on technology enhancements to improve efficiencies to increase site reliability and reduce MTTA and MTTR.

  • Monitor new technological advances in Information Technology through professional groups, trade publications, and personal networking.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 

  • Eight (8) years experience in application support role or application development required.

  • Five (5) years experience with APM tools including Solarwinds, AppDynamics, Azure Monitor/App Insights. AWS Cloud Watch.

  • Five (5) years experience with logging aggregation platforms such as Splunk or Cribl

  • Three (3) years experience in Administration and Python, JavaScript, Powershell, and Shell script writing on Unix/Solaris and Microsoft operating systems required.

  • Three (3) years experience in the financial services industry required.

  • Prior experience supporting Internet technologies (HTTP, SMTP, DNS, TCP/IP, FTP, etc.) required.

  • Support experience with at least three of the following Applications and Middleware required

  • AWS Cloud, Azure Cloud, Redhat Openshift, Containers, IBM IIB, DataPower, APIC, NodeJS.

Actual Pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
