POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Cloud Engineer role is responsible for ensuring seamless integration, optimization, and reliability of cloud services and assist with the transition away from on-premises IT infrastructure. The Senior Cloud Engineer supports a cloud-first computing strategy and contributes to cloud adoption plans, solution design, management and monitoring. This position uses DevOps methodologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce error rates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Design, implement, and maintain highly available and cost-efficient cloud architectures on AWS, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and resource utilization.
- Administer and optimize Microsoft O365 and hybrid Active Directory / Entra ID environments to ensure seamless integration, security, and performance through transition away from on-premises infrastructure to cloud infrastructure.
- Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot Windows servers.
- Administer, troubleshoot, and monitor backup and replication solutions in AWS (primarily using native AWS solutions).
- Support legacy backup solutions during the migration away from on-premises IT infrastructure. Includes Veeam, Barracuda, and Avamar.
- Automate operational tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and effectively to varied stakeholders across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design solutions that address business goals.
- Provide thought-leadership and mentoring to more junior members of the team.
- Act as an escalation point for AWS and O365 related support tickets from the helpdesk.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Other related duties as assigned by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or closely related subject, AWS certifications highly desired.
Required Knowledge:
- Broad knowledge of IT systems in general, and how they interact with each other.
- Deep knowledge of cloud-based environments, preferably AWS.
- Experience with DevOps tools and methodologies.

Experience with enterprise architecture emphasizing high availability and maintainability.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like CloudFormation, CDK, and Terraform.

Experience working in an Agile operating model.
Required Experience:
Seven (7) or more years of experience in cloud architecture, engineering or development including experience in cloud automation frameworks, public cloud infrastructure deployments and solutions for SMEs.
Skills/Abilities:

Hands-on experience in technology modernization initiatives including migration to public cloud operations.
- Experience in Typescript, Python, and/or other programming languages.

Skilled in use of Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, etc.

Understanding secure system design principles, patterns, and practices.
- Self-directed learner with strong communication, analytical, problem-solving skills.

- Ability to drive consistent and repeatable results.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Some evening hours. Weekend on-call rotation. Work is generally
carried out in a typical office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the working conditions are those of a typical office environment, with temperatures occasionally too warm or too cold, moderate noise levels and underlighting conditions of a typical office. Possibility for some remote work as needed.
