Description

As a Cloud Engineer at Verily you will help us develop our cloud platform capabilities and tools that enable Verily engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable, secure, and performant production systems. You will work with software engineers, hardware engineers, and data scientists to help them learn, adapt, and adopt our core cloud management tools and best practices. You will also help develop documentation and training material and evangelize these technologies and capabilities to the broader engineering organization. As an expert in Cloud technologies, you will also help influence architecture and infrastructure decisions within the broader engineering organization.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud architectures aligned with Verily’s business and technical goals.

  • Develop and maintain a technology roadmap for cloud infrastructure, incorporating emerging technologies and aligning with organizational objectives.

  • Lead cloud operations strategy to ensure scalability, performance, security, and disaster recovery.

  • Establish and enforce cloud architecture standards, policies, and guidelines to maintain consistency and reliability across teams.

  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, FedRAMP).

  • Implement and oversee cloud cost optimization strategies to balance infrastructure expenses with Verily’s growing product demands and expansion plans.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Practical experience and/or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • 10+ years of experience managing large-scale cloud infrastructure across multi-cloud environments, including public and private cloud providers.

  • Expert-level knowledge of public cloud platforms, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS, with the ability to leverage these platforms effectively for large-scale operations.

  • Deep hands-on knowledge of cloud operations, including infrastructure provisioning with tools like Terraform, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring systems, and incident management processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead SRE teams and achieve high system availability (99.9% uptime or higher) using automated processes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of DevOps best practices, particularly in regulated environments.

  • Expertise in disaster recovery planning, ensuring quick recovery from failures while maintaining robust security and reliability.

  • Familiarity with industry regulations such as HIPAA, GDPR, and FedRAMP to ensure cloud infrastructure compliance.

  • Strong leadership skills to guide cross-functional teams, align stakeholders, and drive strategic cloud initiatives.

  • Proven ability to mentor and develop technical talent while fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $217,000 - $289,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
