DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement and maintain secure networking infrastructure (VPCs, firewalls, private service connects) following zero-trust principles
  • Manage core GCP services like IAM, resource hierarchy, and organizational policies for secure and compliant resource access.
  • Manage core Kubernetes and Service Mesh deployments for multiple clusters in a highly varied and complex governance environment
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform and GitOps, ensuring adherence to security and compliance standards.
  • Harden foundational infrastructure components against security threats and implement automated security monitoring and alerting.
  • Collaborate with security teams to integrate security best practices and tooling into the foundation layer.
  • Design and implement a self-service platform that enables developers to easily deploy and manage applications in the runtime environments.
  • Develop tools and APIs that abstract away infrastructure complexities, allowing developers to focus on application logic.
  • Define and enforce security and compliance policies for application deployments, ensuring adherence to organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with application teams to understand their needs and optimize the platform to support their development workflows.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices for application development and deployment, including GitOps, CI/CD, and secure coding techniques.
  • Design and implement integrations between the self-service platform and GitLab to streamline application development workflows.
  • Develop tools and APIs that leverage GitLab's capabilities for managing code, deployments, and change management.
  • Ensure the platform supports GitOps best practices and provides developers with the necessary tools and guidance for secure and efficient deployments.
Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect
  • Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer
  • Istio Certified Service Mesh Administrator
  • Strong knowledge of Terraform, including writing, testing, and managing Terraform modules for provisioning and configuring infrastructure resources
  • Experience with Terraform state management, including remote state storage and locking
  • Ability to manage and troubleshoot infrastructure solely through Terraform and other command-line tools (minimal or no console access)
  • Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture, core concepts (pods, deployments, services, ingress controllers, service mesh), and best practices
  • Deep understanding of network policies, security contexts, and role-based access control (RBAC) in Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of core software design principles and practices, including modularity, reusability, and testability
  • Experience with GitOps principles and workflows, including using Git for infrastructure as code and managing changes through pull requests and code reviews
  • Deep understanding of GCP networking, security, and identity management services
  • Experience as a Tech Lead
  • Experience in designing, building, and deploying applications in Kubernetes and a deep understanding of GitLab's API
  • Proficiency in a compiled programming language (C, C++, Golang, Rust, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Deep understanding of Zero Trust principles and implementation across all layers of the platform
  • Deep understanding of application development lifecycle and best practices for cloud-native applications

DESIRED:

  • Google Cloud Professional certifications in any of the following: Security Engineer, Data Engineer, and Cloud Database Engineer
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense or Government adjacent agenciesΒ
