Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

NBCU Local is reimagining storytelling for the next generation of local news watchers, delivering local content to English and Spanish-speaking audiences in 31 U.S. TV markets and Puerto Rico. We are comprised of NBC Owned Television Stations, NBC Sports Regional Networks and Telemundo Station Group – plus multicast networks COZI TV and TeleXitos, regional cable news network NECN, and 16 free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels – including 11 NBC local news, four Telemundo regional news channels.

The NBCU Local Technology & Operations organization provides the Technology & Workflow Solutions, Support, Media Operations, Production, Studio and Facilities services that power NBCU Local content creation and distribution.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer with deep expertise in media and broadcast workflows to join our team. In this role, you will architect, automate and operate the cloud‑native infrastructure that underpins live and on‑demand content creation, editing and delivery. Combining deep Kubernetes expertise with Infrastructure‑as‑Code discipline, you’ll make our media workflows secure, observable and resilient. Your work will be key to executing our strategy to modernize the content creator workflow and ensure smooth delivery of high-quality content to audiences worldwide.

Job Responsibilities:

CI/CD Automation:

  • Build secure, repeatable pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar) for container images, IaC modules and application releases.
  • Develop automation utilities in Python, Go, Bash or PowerShell to reduce toil and accelerate delivery.

Hybrid & Cloud-Based Architecture:

  • Design and implement AWS‑centric and on‑prem resources using Crossplane, Terraform, Helm and GitOps workflows.
  • Own Kubernetes clusters (EKS/AKS/on‑prem) that run micro‑services, playout pipelines and control‑plane tooling.
  • Create modular, reusable IaC patterns that meet scalability, performance and reliability targets.

Alerting & Incident Response:

  • Define SLO/SLA objectives, instrument applications and infrastructure, and build proactive alerting with Datadog or Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/CloudWatch.
  • Codify auto‑healing and run‑book automation to maximize uptime.

Security & Compliance:

  • Embed zero‑trust networking, least‑privilege IAM, secrets management and policy‑as‑code into every layer.
  • Partner with NBCU Cyber to address findings, maintain compliance and champion secure‑by‑default practices.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Work closely with engineering, operations and production teams to translate real‑world workflow requirements into resilient infrastructure designs.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct design and code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous learning and DevOps best practice.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in DevOps/Site Reliability or related discipline, with 3+ years designing cloud‑native architectures at enterprise scale.
  • Deep production experience with Kubernetes and container ecosystems.
  • 3+ years hands‑on with IaC/CM tools—Crossplane, Terraform, Helm, Ansible or Puppet.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell for automation and tooling.
  • Solid foundation in AWS core services (EC2, S3, Route 53, IAM, VPC) and networking fundamentals.
  • Strong Linux/Windows administration, troubleshooting and performance‑tuning skills.
  • Proven ability to author technical documentation and present complex concepts to diverse audiences.

Skills & Experience we are looking for:

  • Go development for infrastructure—experience writing Kubernetes operators, Crossplane providers, or other controller‑style tooling.
  • GitOps expertise—hands‑on with Argo CD, Flux, or comparable declarative deployment workflows.
  • Advanced observability—building dashboards and alerting rules with Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch/Loki, or ELK.
  • CI/CD craftsmanship—designing robust, reusable pipelines in GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar systems.
  • Team enablement—proven record of mentoring engineers and driving knowledge‑sharing initiatives across DevOps and production teams.

This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.
