Job Summary

This role is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Cloud Engineer to perform a pivotal role in a continuing program of Cloud adoption. The main requirement is to act as the Lead Engineer on our Cloud DC migration workstream within the Cloud Adoption Strategic programme of work. This will involve taking technical ownership of the Cloud deployment responsibilities within the workstream specialising in the migration of existing in-premise VMware hypervisor environments and taking them to Cloud native solutions such as Azure VMware and AWS VMware Cloud platforms. Working with the programme and project managers to define the workstreams and the technical delivery and milestones within.

Main duties

  • Act as the key technical resource in respect of the Azure IaaS platform

  • Act as technical owner of the Azure IaaS platform as the Chaucer SME

  • Identify any areas of concern surrounding the Windows Server estate

  • Advising on best practice and ensuring BAU processes are designed to maintain the Azure IaaS estate in accordance with those recommendations

  • Prioritising and managing workload effectively. Delivering projects and service to SLA

  • Providing guidance, motivation and direction to team members ensuring work is produced to a good and consistent standard

  • Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with the business, other CTG teams and vendor/partners ensuring key support principles are demonstrated

  • Ensure that the service delivered displays a high level of engagement and support orientation

  • Provide value add in recognising the importance of building, developing and extending relationship across the team and the wider business

  • Continuously monitor and improve the Azure IaaS platform

  • Design and implement Azure IaaS platform solutions

  • Act as an escalation point to assist in troubleshooting and resolution of critical service impactful incidents

  • Work with a variety of business and technical teams plus 3rd party to enhance service and deliver solutions/projects

  • Demonstrate expertise in key areas of Azure IaaS platform and associated applications and technologies

  • Possess a broad knowledge of IT infrastructure

  • Assisting BAU process development relating to trend analysis and problem management

  • Develop and maintain standard processes and procedures – Ensuring these are adhered to across the team

  • Ensuring delivery of secure Azure IaaS platform solutions

  • Adherence to and assistance with the development of Information Security policies

  • Lead by example and take an active role within the team promoting technical awareness, supporting project initiatives, contributing to the goals of CTG and the business community

  • Ensure adherence to the Chaucer corporate values and CTG strategy that underpins our key business objectives

  • Assisting BAU process development relating to trend analysis and problem management

  • Develop and maintain standard processes and procedures – Ensuring these are adhered to across the team

Regulatory responsibilities

  • Adhere to Corporate Policies and Procedures, including Code of Conduct, Audit Procedures, and any control related policy

Our requirements

Relevant experience         

  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in the design, configuration, troubleshooting and deployment of Microsoft Windows Server technologies in an enterprise (Windows server OS, Windows Active Directory, Windows AD DNS)

  • Hands-on skills delivering Microsoft Windows Server based technologies

  • Familiar with virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMWare ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V)

  • Deployment and administration of Enterprise infrastructure reporting and management platforms

  • Practical knowledge of network administration and troubleshooting, TCP/IP and WAN/ LAN /WI-FI

  • Capacity management and planning

  • Hardware and software licensing

  • Awareness and ability to implement new technologies appropriate to the organization

  • Experience of Microsoft Azure AD in respect of interoperability, integration and also replacement of on-premise AD

  • Experience of any enterprise “as a Service” deployments

Education & Qualifications

Desirable       

  • Any certifications relevant to but not limited to:-

    • Azure Cloud Infrastructure (e.g. Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900)

    • Windows Server OS 2016 and later versions

    • Windows Active Directory

    • Azure Active Directory

    • Windows AD DNS

    • Enterprise backup and restore tools

    • MS System Centre (configuration and operations manager)

    • SharePoint Online

    • VMware hypervisor and vCentre environments

    • ITIL Qualified
