Overview

Cloud Engineering is a center of excellence for cloud technology at T. Rowe Price, we are a team of experts who deliver cloud solutions to all areas of the business. You will be a leading member of our team where you will analyze, design, build, and evolve cloud infrastructure solutions and patterns to support T. Rowe Price’s technology program. Your knowledge, creativity, and ability to innovate helps keep our solutions on the cutting edge, and your keen eye for detail and focus on operational excellence ensures that our solutions are reliable, sustainable, and efficient.

Expected skills

  • Possess expert knowledge of multiple cloud services

  • Expert at troubleshooting complex issues in cloud infrastructure components

  • Techniques for decomposing complex problems into discrete work units

  • Ability to balance strategic and pragmatic concerns when solving problems

  • Ability to apply solutions at an organizational scale

  • Ability to define strategic visions for the imaginative use of specific cloud technologies

  • Has comprehensive knowledge of core infrastructure capabilities: operating systems, networking, identity, and access

  • Has comprehensive knowledge of tooling used to test and manage infrastructure components

  • Ability to design and produce sustainable solutions which can be extended and refactored as needed

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a diverse range of audiences

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining an expert level of awareness and understanding of evolving cloud technology and evaluating its relevance to the organization’s requirements

  • Shape and influence higher-level strategies

  • Provide leadership for other technology teams in using cloud services effectively, securely and efficiently

  • Representing the T Rowe Price Cloud Engineering team at organization forums and events

  • Producing and delivering training programs for cloud services to our technology teams

  • Leading major projects to evolve and modernize our cloud deployments

  • Setting the standards for shared, reusable cloud deployment code and configuration

  • Be a key voice in defining and refining our security and resilience standards and ensuring they are fit for purpose

  • Be an escalation point for complex cloud-related issues

  • Coordinating a globally-distributed team (US east coast and UK)

  • Defining and creating new technical policies and standards within the firm

  • Advising management and external stakeholders on broad-ranging projects

Qualifications and experience profile

  • Typically has 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of experience and relevant qualifications

  • Proven experience and knowledge of either AWS or Azure cloud platforms

  • Expert knowledge of container runtime platforms such as AWS ECS, EKS or Azure AKS

  • Expert knowledge of Hashicorp Terraform and HCL

  • Expert software development and testing expertise, including CI/CD

  • Proven ability to design and refactor software to be maintainable and malleable

  • Deep knowledge of modern security principles and technology, including authentication, authorization, policies and secrets management

  • Relevant cloud certifications a bonus

  • Experience writing Java and Groovy, or similar languages

  • Experience of structured mentoring, teaching and coaching of other engineers up to lead level

  • Experience of working in a regulated environment would be useful
