Overview
We're looking for a skilled Network & Cloud Engineer to support the design, implementation, and management of hybrid network environments across on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft Azure. In this role, you'll contribute to product development efforts, help shape internal policies and procedures, and collaborate closely with clients, architects, and project teams. This is a hands-on position that requires technical depth, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage tasks independently while staying on scope and under budget.
The ideal candidate is familiar with Azure services, eager to learn, able to adapt to changing requirements, and comfortable working in fast-paced environments.
Essential Responsibilities
- Build and support network infrastructure components such as firewalls, virtual networks, VPNs, encryptors, and routing in both on-prem and Azure environments.
- Provide high-quality service and expert technical guidance to clients and internal resources.
- Coordinate closely with engineering and delivery teams to align tasks with broader system architecture.
- Take direction and request help from Principal and Senior Architects as needed.
- Respond to escalated issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes.
- Stay informed on Azure-specific networking advancements (e.g., Private Link, Azure Firewall, Virtual WAN) and apply them effectively.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues across hybrid environments.
- Deliver work that meets quality expectations, stays within scope, and adheres to time and budget constraints.
- Develop and maintain accurate documentation and support knowledge-sharing across teams.
- Assist with reviewing, developing, and executing new product offerings for clients.
Additional Responsibilities
- Mentor junior team members when appropriate.
- Proactively identify risks or gaps and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Assist with Risk Management Framework (RMF), System Security Plan (SSP), and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) documentation.
- Assist with ensuring compliance with government frameworks such as CMMC, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and ITAR to maintain an Authority to Operate (ATO).
- Implement advanced encryption, access controls, and vulnerability management solutions to protect classified data.
- Perform threat analysis, incident response, and continuous monitoring through tools like Azure Sentinel and Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of Azure infrastructure using infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Integrate security into the DevSecOps CI/CD pipeline, automating controls for secure deployments using Terraform, ARM templates, and Bicep.
- Security Architecture & Operations
- Develop and maintain IAM policies, firewalls, NSGs, and private endpoints for secure access and network configurations.
- Ensure robust security operations through intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS) and endpoint protection solutions.
- Manage configuration and compliance drift with tools like Azure Policy and automated audits.
Mandatory Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant IT experience with specialization in networking technologies
- Firewalls, Routers, Switches, LAN/WAN, etc.
- 5+ years of experience in Azure security engineering.
- Preferred experience comes from Azure Secret or Government environments.
- Security+ or DoD 8570.01-M IAM Level 2 or higher certification.
- S. citizen with the ability to pass an extensive background check.
- Proficiency in security frameworks like CMMC, FedRAMP+, NIST 800-53, and DoD IL6.
- Expertise in Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Sentinel, and Key Vaults.
- Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Terraform to automate security operations.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Cisco switches and routers.
- Microsoft 365 GCC High experience.
- NIST 800-171 and/or NIST 800-53 knowledge.
- Professional certifications
- Network+
- MCE: Enterprise Administrator Expert
- MCA: Security Administrator
- MCSE: Core Infrastructure
- MCSE: Productivity Solutions Expert
- Hands-on experience managing SSP, POA&M, and IATT/ATO processes.
- Microsoft Security Certifications (e.g., Azure Security Engineer, Security Operations Analyst).
- Experience working with defense contractors or federal clients in classified environments.
- Familiarity with zero-trust security architectures and DevSecOps principles.
- Ability to manage encryption key rotation, network security policies, and vulnerability management tools.
Work Conditions
The work environment is an office setting. This person must have the physical capacity to sit still for long durations with occasional movement within the office to access files or office equipment. This person must also have the technical skill to arrange an office space using the equipment provided. The person in this position regularly interacts with employees and clients through various modes of communication, such as emails, phone calls, video calls, etc. This person must have the communication skills to convey precise information in these situations.
