About The Role

The DevOps Shared services team are committed to providing frictionless platforms to the AO Tech department, in view of accelerating technical teams and improving operability.

Automating manual processes, establishing technical standards and providing compliance assurance across the AO Tech department will be your primary focuses. The automated tooling you develop will stop duplicated and repeated work occurring across technical teams, whilst informing them of their compliance status. 

We're in a process of natural evolution (soon we'll be The Cloud Team) - our customers and stakeholders are the Tech teams, and we're here to make their lives better. 

You will continuously promote the DevOps movement by publicizing the best technologies and practices to technical teams to support their business objectives and ongoing development. You will therefore be a fast learner and an effective communicator to deliver the best cloud technologies and pipelines to a thriving technical department.

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

• You could be improving the way we deploy our code one day and then working on speeding up DNS resolution on another. You will be using source control (Git) to manage code for both software and infrastructure.

• You will be a key communicator within the team, publicising our latest product and platforms to the Tech teams and helping to define their adoption processes.

• Your immediate focus will be establishing standards for AO’s AWS platforms through the means of CCOE articles, shared IaC modules and leveraging the latest organizational tooling within AWS.

• Then you will literally "Eat your own dog food" by owning and becoming first adopters of these practices, processes and systems to help reinforce AO’s cloud assurance and shared services compliance across the cloud offering.

• Using AO’s range of CI/CD tools you will leverage the likes of bitbucket, TeamCity, Octopus and JFrog x-ray to provide dev teams with a safe path of least resistance to the platforms you provide. These platforms range from centralized compute to containerized cluster offerings with automated orchestration through varied providers partnered with AWS.

Your knowledge

• We are a Windows focused environment, so PowerShell or any other shell scripting knowledge  (Python, Bash) would be a bonus.

• Infrastructure as code (IAC) is a must, everything we build today is managed by code, and our team’s need templates and modules to avoid repeated work.

• Managing a central containerization platform and its deployment pipeline.

• Developing and optimising CI pipelines and a continuous delivery (CD) mindset.

• Security is important to you; you build with security in mind and develop processes that help engineers to build secure and compliant systems.

• Logging/ELK stacks, and both APM and infrastructure monitoring.

• Message Queuing solutions, such as RabbitMQ and AWS MQ.

• Automating checks and reports to show compliance results across all AWS accounts.

Highly Desirable

• Do you have an AWS certification? Excellent but not essential.

• You can perform and lead effective root cause analysis to ensure that we learn from our mistakes and use it to drive improvements.

• Do you also have a deep understanding of computer networks? You will regularly need to solve problems that involve crossing over into infrastructure, networking, and architecture.

• If you have strong database query skills such as MSSQL or PostgreSQL this would be beneficial.
