Cloud Engineer

About the role

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for all facets of our infrastructure across Appriss Retail’s Azure subscriptions. They will provide expertise in architecting, implementing, and operationalizing new and existing infrastructure, data management, and cloud technology initiatives to improve security, performance, and resource utilization. 

What you'll do

• Leverage strong Azure expertise to modify/improve/develop/test the platform/infrastructure using appropriate tools, coding standards, best practices, automation, and new technology to meet customer requirements. 

• Infrastructure Scripting capabilities – help design and create automation scripts and code for resource configuration and deployment. 

• Proficient in creating proof-of-concepts to assess architectural feasibility and viability.  

• Understanding of the design and ability to resolve production outages in conjunction with application, support, and platform services team. 

• Develop clear and concise documentation regarding technical solutions and share knowledge with teammates, benefits and drawbacks of different architectural solutions, etc. 

• Be cost conscious and track Azure billing changes/identify opportunities to lower costs. 

• Define monitoring alerts for the infrastructure based on best practices, experiences, and root cause analysis.  Respond to those alerts both during business hours and an on-call rotation. 

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in a computer related field or comparable experience. 

• 2+ years of experience with Azure and other public cloud services. 

• 2+ years of experience with software code design, development, testing and maintenance. 

• 2+ years of experience with Terraform and other IaC technologies. 

• Experience building and maintaining Azure networking, routing, & firewalling.  

• Demonstrable experience  with PaaS based solutions including but not limited to App Services, Azure SQL DB, & Azure Functions. 

• Experience with Python, PowerShell or Bash. 

• Exposure to large scale infrastructure. 

• A desire to continuously build expertise in new technologies. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
