Systems & Cloud Engineer - Norfolk

Job Summary: 

In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, modernization, and support of NIM’s hybrid IT infrastructure. You will help maintain reliable on-premise systems while supporting the company’s ongoing transition toward cloud-based services and modernizations.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in Windows Server, VMware, networking, and Microsoft Azure, with an interest in improving automation, security, and system integration across a growing hybrid environment.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities: 

Infrastructure & Operations

• Maintain and optimize VMware, Windows Server, and related infrastructure
• Manage patching, backups, disaster recovery, and system performance
• Ensure uptime and reliability of business-critical systems

Cloud & Hybrid Support

• Support and administer Microsoft Azure resources
• Assist with hybrid networking and secure connectivity between on-prem and cloud systems
• Support cloud readiness initiatives tied to modernization efforts

Identity & Security

• Manage Active Directory and Azure AD (Entra ID)
• Support SSO and MFA expansion
• Assist with security hardening and access control best practices

Networking

• Support firewalls, VPNs, and SD-WAN configurations
• Assist with network segmentation and security improvements

Automation & Documentation

• Develop PowerShell scripts or automation to improve operational efficiency
• Maintain clear documentation of infrastructure and system dependencies
• Reduce single points of failure through knowledge sharing

Collaboration

• Work closely with Software Development, Analytics, and IT teams
• Support infrastructure requirements for modernization and application initiatives

Required Skills & Abilities:

• 5+ years in systems administration or infrastructure engineering
• VMware administration
• Windows Server and Active Directory
• Experience supporting Microsoft Azure environments
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Networking fundamentals (firewalls, VPN, routing)

Preferred

• Experience in hybrid cloud environments
• Experience with automation or scripting

Good to Have

• Familiarity with ERP systems

Education and Experience:

• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience:
• 3+ years of experience in system administration, network management, or IT support.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services, including deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of infrastructure components.
