Legal & General looks after around 700,000 institutional customers who have their retirement benefits secured with us. Operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987, we are the UK’s longest-running insurer.
Our Institutional Retirement division provides pension risk transfer (PRT) solutions for UK and US defined benefit (DB) schemes, and reinsurance solutions from our global hub in Bermuda. We work with companies, DB pension schemes and their advisors to help them secure and protect scheme members’ retirement benefits.
Joining us means you’ll support customers’ financial security in retirement; help companies to settle their pension liabilities and focus on growing their businesses; and enable investment for the long term to back our pension promises.
We are seeking a seasoned Platform Engineer to spearhead the development, delivery, and operational management of multiple strategic software platforms leveraging Cloud infrastructure. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with technical stakeholders to shape technical roadmaps, drive change implementation, scale service offerings, and optimise platforms by employing best practice methodologies.
What you'll be doing:
- Leveraging cloud expertise to execute technical platform build activities on projects, including Azure configuration for scaling, optimisation, and resilience.
- Ensuring thorough analysis and detailed requirements capture, with accurate estimates to implement solutions correctly the first time. Tracking changes to requirements and assess their impact on timelines and plans.
- Developing and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of the cloud and the broader group network to inform design and planning, ensuring all dependencies and access requirements are met.
- Staying informed about security controls and integrate them into our implementation and configuration practices, highlighting any areas of non-conformance.
- Drafting Low-Level Design documents for projects to ensure the build process is well-informed.
- Maintaining IT application and infrastructure technical documentation to ensure solutions are maintainable and provide necessary attestation for audit purposes.
- Embedding the principles of Conduct Risk into daily operations to consistently deliver positive customer outcomes. Ensuring all business processes and internal controls are designed and executed to achieve good customer outcomes and demonstrate effective management of Conduct Risk.
Who we're looking for:
- Extensive hands-on technical expertise with Microsoft Azure, particularly in software platforms, is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated success in applying CI/CD and DevOps processes across large-scale, complex change and technology initiatives.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language or scripting tool (e.g., C#, Java, Azure CLI, Bash, PowerShell) is required.
- Proven ability to proactively deliver solutions to technical and business challenges under tight deadlines.
- Strong background in System Administration, networking, Windows and Linux configuration, and experience in DevOps or SRE roles.
- Experience with web protocols such as TCP, DNS, HTTPS, and web security mechanisms (e.g., SSL, digital signatures), as well as proxies, firewalls, and application delivery controllers (load balancers).
- Excellent documentation and communication skills in a client or customer-facing environment.
- Proficiency in automating tasks, scheduling, and managing user and group permissions is expected.
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
- The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
- Generous pension contribution
- Life assurance
- Private medical insurance (permanent employees only)
- At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
- Competitive family leave
- Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice
- There are the many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
- In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart
