Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Cloud Engineering is responsible for leading the strategy, delivery, and operational excellence of Caris Life Sciences’ cloud infrastructure across AWS. This role oversees Cloud team ,and ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable cloud platforms that support clinical, analytical, and enterprise workloads
The Senior Manager drives cloud modernization, Kubernetes/EKS strategy, Infrastructure as Code adoption, observability improvements, and operational automation. This leader partners closely with DevOps teams, Security, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, and Networking to deliver high-performance, cost-efficient cloud architectures aligned with SOX, HIPAA, and internal security standards.
This role requires a technical leader capable of guiding senior engineers, influencing architectural direction, and enabling cross-functional execution while also providing people leadership, capacity planning, roadmap development, and operational governance
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the cloud engineering strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Provide architectural oversight for AWS cloud platforms, including EKS, networking, IAM, and cloud-native security.
- Lead large-scale cloud modernization, migration, and containerization initiatives.
- Manage and mentor DevOps engineers
- Establish cloud best practices, standards, and technical career development paths.
- Oversee hiring, performance management, resource planning, and workload prioritization.
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of AWS-hosted workloads and Kubernetes/EKS platforms.
- Oversee observability strategy, including metrics, logs, traces, and incident-response processes.
- Provide technical leadership during major incidents and drive root-cause and corrective action plans.
- Implement and maintain HA/DR strategies, backup standards, and resilience engineering practices.
- Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code frameworks.
- Oversee CI/CD modernization, automated testing, and deployment pipeline improvements.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities across provisioning, operations, compliance, and governance.
- Partner with InfoSec to implement cloud security policies, guardrails, and automated compliance checks.
- Ensure engineering practices uphold SOX, HIPAA, and internal security requirements.
- Lead cloud security posture improvements in IAM, VPC, encryption, monitoring, and vulnerability remediation.
- Collaborate with Application Engineering, Data Engineering, Security, and networking teams to enable cloud adoption.
- Drive cloud cost optimization, budgeting, and vendor management with finance and leadership.
- Ensure robust documentation, runbooks, and knowledge management across cloud and DevOps teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure, or SRE roles.
- 6+ years of experience in a technical leadership or people-management role.
- Deep expertise with AWS platform services including EKS, EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, S3, Security Hub, and CloudWatch.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes cluster architecture, container orchestration, and cloud-native security practices.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
- Proven ability to lead CI/CD modernization and DevOps best practices.
- Experience managing cloud networking and security alignment in partnership with InfoSec (matrix model).
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements such as SOX and HIPAA.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to drive consensus and influence cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Professional Certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional).
- Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD, CKS).
- Experience with cost-optimization strategies and FinOps practices.
- Experience with observability platforms (DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Experience supporting large-scale distributed systems across clinical, analytics, or regulated industries.

Annual Hiring Range
$180,000 - $210,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level. The pay ratio between base pay and target incentive (if applicable) will be finalized at offer.
