Role Description: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to assist in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based business solutions, specifically focusing on Microsoft Azure. The candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the State of Michigan's multi-cloud hosting solution while guiding and training internal staff to transition seamlessly into the Azure Cloud environment.

 

You’ll be responsible for (Responsibilities): 

  • Design and deliver secure cloud solutions on Azure.
  • Support the development, deployment, and updating of Azure Cloud Services.
  • Provide architectural guidance and implement the State of Michigan Cloud Strategy.
  • Build relationships across organizational teams and collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize business needs.
  • Develop detailed architecture models for test, development, and production environments.
  • Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues and ensure system optimization.
  • Create technical documentation, including Requirements Traceability Matrix, Security Architecture Plans, and technical white papers.
  • Promote best practices in cybersecurity and cloud compliance (NIST, PCI, CJIS, etc.).
  • Lead large-scale workload and data migration efforts.
  • Provide direct support for defining requirements and delivering solutions.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience: 3–5 years as a Senior Cloud Engineer.
  • Solid knowledge of cloud architecture, continuous integration/delivery, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of Linux OS, virtual networks, and network management.
  • Hands-on experience with servers, infrastructure sizing, and cost reduction.
  • Expertise in CloudFormation, Ansible, PowerShell, DSC, or equivalent tools.
  • Proven experience with DevOps, DevSecOps, or site reliability engineering practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: Azure – MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure (highly desirable).
  • Cloud security and chaos engineering experience.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for cloud infrastructure.
Core Competencies
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communication abilities to explain complex concepts.
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions and produce high-quality documentation.
Position Details
    • Work Schedule: Hybrid: 2 days onsite in Lansing, MI (Tuesday and Wednesday mandatory).
    • Interviews:
      • 1st round: Virtual via MS Teams (camera required).
      • 2nd round: Potential in-person interview.
    • Local Candidates Only: Must reside in Michigan at the time of submission.
