Remote | Software Engineer, Platform Engineering — $200,000–$300,000/year

We are sharing a specialised full-time remote opportunity for experienced Software Engineers with strong expertise in platform engineering, full-stack development, backend architecture, 0-to-1 product development, and AI-native software engineering to contribute to the design and development of scalable technology platforms and AI-powered products.

Selected professionals will own engineering solutions from initial problem discovery and architectural design through implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement. The role combines hands-on software development with product thinking, system design, technical decision-making, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. Successful candidates will bring experience developing production systems in fast-moving environments and translating evolving business requirements into reliable, scalable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

0-to-1 Product Engineering & Development

• Design and build software products from initial concept through production launch and subsequent iterations
• Translate business requirements, user needs, and ambiguous product ideas into practical engineering solutions
• Take ownership of product development across discovery, technical planning, implementation, and deployment
• Develop production-ready applications that balance functional requirements, usability, performance, and maintainability
• Apply iterative development practices to deliver meaningful product improvements and support evolving business objectives

System Architecture & Backend Engineering

• Design scalable and reliable software systems using appropriate architectural patterns and engineering principles
• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, databases, and integration components
• Make informed technical decisions involving system architecture, data modelling, performance, and operational requirements
• Evaluate architectural trade-offs involving implementation speed, simplicity, reliability, and long-term scalability
• Continuously improve existing systems to support changing product requirements and operational demands

Full-Stack Development & Platform Engineering

• Build and enhance internal platforms, developer tools, applications, and supporting technical infrastructure
• Implement software functionality across frontend, backend, and integration layers using appropriate frameworks and technologies
• Develop systems and workflows that improve operational efficiency and support business processes
• Integrate internal services, external APIs, databases, and software components into cohesive technical solutions
• Maintain code quality, system performance, and engineering reliability across production environments

AI-Native Development & Workflow Automation

• Use AI-powered development tools to accelerate software implementation, debugging, testing, and technical problem-solving
• Incorporate tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or comparable AI coding assistants into daily engineering workflows
• Develop and enhance AI-powered applications, internal automation tools, and intelligent software workflows
• Evaluate opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into existing products, platforms, and operational processes
• Apply engineering judgement to validate AI-assisted implementations and maintain high standards of software quality

Product Collaboration & Technical Ownership

• Collaborate with product, design, and operations stakeholders to define requirements and establish implementation priorities
• Contribute technical expertise to product decisions, architectural planning, and engineering strategy
• Identify practical solutions to complex technical challenges and independently drive implementation
• Evaluate feedback, operational needs, and product performance to guide continuous improvement
• Take end-to-end ownership of engineering deliverables while supporting efficient development and deployment practices

Ideal Profile

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong foundation in full-stack development and backend systems
• Demonstrated expertise in software architecture, system design, and production application development
• Proven experience building products from concept to launch in 0-to-1 engineering environments
• Experience working as an early engineering team member at a startup or similarly fast-moving technology organisation
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, API design, databases, data modelling, and software integrations
• Practical experience developing applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, and development tools
• Ability to design reliable, scalable, maintainable systems and evolve technical architecture alongside product requirements
• Active experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent solutions in daily development workflows
• Strong product-oriented mindset, including an understanding of user requirements, business objectives, and product development priorities
• Experience making architectural and technical decisions independently while balancing engineering trade-offs
• Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous requirements into structured, production-ready software solutions
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, testing, debugging, deployment, and iterative development
• Hands-on approach to solving technical problems and delivering functional software efficiently
• Experience building AI-powered products, agentic workflows, or LLM-integrated applications is advantageous
• Familiarity with internal platform development, developer tooling, or workflow automation systems is beneficial
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and scalable backend architectures is advantageous
• Experience evolving technical systems through different stages of startup growth is highly relevant
• Previous collaboration with founders, product leadership, or cross-functional startup teams is beneficial
• Strong analytical reasoning, technical problem-solving, communication, and independent decision-making capabilities
