Job Description

CoBank is seeking a Principal DevOps Engineer who is a technology enthusiast and possesses a proven track record of solving complex business challenges. This role requires someone who excels in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and values inclusivity. As a Principal DevOps Engineer at CoBank, you will be responsible for utilizing sophisticated automation techniques to create innovative products on AWS and on-premises infrastructure, while staying current with the latest technological advancements. Your role will be pivotal in integrating development and operations teams smoothly to deliver high-quality software products within the cloud/devops/infrastructure realm. Key responsibilities include designing and architecting CoBank's AWS footprints, implementing Infra as Code and Pipeline as Code using tools like Terraform, and leading complex solution implementations in Kubernetes environment. The ideal candidate will have expert-level knowledge in these technologies and strong leadership skills to guide a team in providing cutting-edge DevOps solutions. What You'll Do: • Design and architect CoBank's AWS footprints to ensure high availability, scalability, and security • Implement Infra as Code and Pipeline as Code using tools such as Terraform and Kubernetes • Lead the development and implementation of automation solutions for infrastructure and application deployment • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define DevOps best practices and standards • Provide technical expertise, leadership and guidance to team members • Lead complex solution implementations and provide mentorship to junior team members

Essential Functions

Design and implement highly available and scalable infrastructure on AWS
Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform
Implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins or Gitlab CI
Design and implement Kubernetes clusters
Implement monitoring and logging solutions using tools like Prometheus and ELK stack
Collaborate with development teams to ensure proper deployment and testing of applications
Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and deployment issues
Lead and mentor team members on best practices and standards in DevOps

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required

Work Experience

8 years of experience in DevOps/SRE/Cloud/IT Operations/SysAdmin engineering, required
7 years of experience supporting a cloud service; preferably, AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure required
Ability to build roadmaps
Ability to influence timelines, expectations, and proactively negotiates across departments and functional management.
Ability to complete assigned processes or programs
Ability to routinely apply significant independent judgement on moderate and complex business problems.

Extensive experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or other cloud services, reflecting a more principal level of expertise.
Any AWS/Azure/GCP Certification (developer, solution architect, networking, infrastructure). This is not required but would be preferred.
Expert-level knowledge of AWS services and architecture
Strong experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
Proficiency in CI/CD tools and pipelines (Github action, Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipeline)
Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker
Strong understanding of networking, security, and compliance in cloud environments
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead complex solution implementations.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $140,052 - $194,742. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
