Position Summary
We are seeking a DevOps Infrastructure Engineer Lead to own the design, implementation, automation, operational excellence, and lifecycle evolution of resilient enterprise infrastructure across public and private cloud environments. The role provides end-to-end technical ownership for assigned infrastructure platforms and services, establishes engineering standards, leads complex delivery and escalation activities, and partners with architects, developers, security teams, project teams, business stakeholders, and service providers. The successful candidate will combine hands-on engineering depth with technical leadership, mentoring, and sound architectural decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end technical design for assigned infrastructure platforms and services across public and private cloud environments.
- Translate business and technical requirements into solution architectures, proof-of-concept designs, design standards, architecture decision records, implementation patterns, and lifecycle roadmaps.
- Ensure solution quality, security, resiliency, scalability, operability, recoverability, supportability, and alignment with enterprise architecture.
- Lead design reviews and assess implementation readiness within the assigned scope.
- Lead implementation and continuous improvement through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automated provisioning, configuration management, and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices.
- Establish reusable engineering patterns and standards using Terraform, Azure DevOps, Git, YAML Ainβt Markup Language (YAML), PowerShell, Kubernetes, and cloud-native services.
- Guide engineers through complex delivery work and validate that implemented solutions conform to approved designs.
- Provide Level 3 technical escalation support for enterprise infrastructure spanning Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Kubernetes, Windows, Linux, identity and access integrations, cross-environment connectivity, and third-party applications.
- Direct troubleshooting of complex distributed systems, drive root-cause analysis, and ensure monitoring, performance, capacity, availability, and recovery requirements are met.
- Partner with architecture, application development, security, service management, project, business, and vendor teams on product evaluation, platform strategy, cost and support considerations, and technology lifecycle decisions.
- Mentor and peer-review engineers, communicate complex technical decisions to technical and non-technical audiences, and support structured change management and documentation.
- Participate in scheduled or unscheduled after-hours maintenance and rotational on-call support when required.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, or DevOps solutions.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, automation, CI/CD, and cloud-platform delivery.
- 3+ years serving as a technical lead, solution-design owner, or primary technical authority for complex enterprise initiatives.
- Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end solution design, including requirements, architecture decisions, standards, security, resiliency, implementation oversight, operational acceptance, and lifecycle planning.
- Experience integrating infrastructure platforms with enterprise systems such as ServiceNow, Active Directory, secrets-management solutions, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and enterprise data or application services.
Required Technical Skills
- Advanced design and implementation of enterprise infrastructure across Microsoft Azure, AWS, and private-cloud environments.
- Infrastructure as Code and automation using Terraform, Azure DevOps pipelines, Git, YAML, PowerShell, and related engineering tools.
- Kubernetes orchestration, container platforms, and cloud-native service integration.
- Windows and Linux server administration, identity services, networking, security fundamentals, and high-availability technologies.
- Troubleshooting and performance tuning of complex distributed systems.
- Monitoring, logging, observability, capacity management, disaster recovery, and operational-readiness practices.
- Configuration management, reusable infrastructure patterns, source control, pipeline governance, and automated deployment controls.
- Knowledge of cloud security, identity and access management, secrets management, network connectivity, resilience, and recovery design.
Architecture and Operational Accountabilities
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams, decision records, engineering standards, reusable patterns, runbooks, support models, and lifecycle roadmaps.
- Define technical acceptance criteria and ensure operational readiness before services transition into production.
- Drive root-cause elimination and continuous improvement rather than relying only on incident restoration.
- Ensure monitoring, logging, alerting, performance, capacity, availability, backup, and recovery requirements are designed and validated.
- Evaluate implementation risk, technical debt, supportability, licensing, cost optimization, and lifecycle implications when making platform decisions.
Preferred Qualifications and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience is acceptable.
- Relevant Microsoft Azure, AWS, DevOps, Kubernetes, security, or infrastructure certification.
- Experience with Agile delivery, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), identity management, enterprise security, and cloud cost optimization.
- Experience with operational governance, service management, change enablement, disaster recovery exercises, and platform lifecycle management.
Leadership and Professional Competencies
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and cross-functional delivery without requiring direct people-management authority.
- Strong mentoring, peer-review, technical decision-making, and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make independent technical decisions with enterprise impact.
- Ability to communicate architecture, risk, cost, and operational trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong accountability, service orientation, documentation discipline, and commitment to engineering quality.
