Your team consists of approximately 20 connectivity specialists who know every route within the data centers and are committed to addressing IP conflicts. The team is responsible for network services, the foundation for platforms, data, and services. Customers benefit from a highly available and secure connection using our Private Cloud services.

Besides daily management, connectivity specialists primarily work on (customer) projects, both within our KPN customer platform environments and at co-locations. Connectivity also enables the Full Stack Operations team to handle incidents, problems, and changes. Our team operates 24/7 on-call shifts on a rotating basis and also implements changes outside of office hours if necessary. Encouraging and challenging each other to continuously improve is how we make progress.

Job description

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer - Connectivity who, in addition to managing, maintaining, Life Cycle Management (LCM), and innovating network components such as Cisco, F5, and Fortinet, will also focus on virtual networking (SDN/NFV). You will also work with a wide range of scripting and automation tools to deliver robust, scalable, and secure solutions. You will also have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of automation (Python, Ansible) and grow in technologies such as Fortinet, Tufin, Netbox, and ScienceLogic.

Some of your duties include: 

  • Not only do you independently implement changes and solve complex cases, but you also actively participate in the construction, configuration and documentation of robust solutions and innovations
  • You'll be responsible for managing and maintaining Cisco, F5, and Fortinet network components, among others. You'll monitor performance, identify anomalies, and contribute to the management, standardization, renewal, and innovation of our environment.
  • You develop and maintain software-defined network solutions, including documenting processes and automating these processes.
  • Setting up monitoring and backup, so that we can guarantee availability and business continuity.
  • You ensure that the platform meets KPN's high compliance and security requirements.

Job requirements

We're looking for a team player with a passion for technology and innovation. You have a Bachelor's or Bachelor's degree (HBO+) work and thinking level, are a strong communicator, and can translate technical concepts into language our clients understand. You enjoy contributing to future-oriented solutions. Collaboration comes naturally to you. You're enthusiastic, eager to learn, analytical, and always up-to-date on the latest developments, eager to share your knowledge. You have a strong affinity for setting up and managing networks and extensive knowledge of compute and hypervisor environments.

We can also count on you:

  • HBO/HBO+ work and thinking level;
  • CCNA/CCNP certification 
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with Cisco, Fortinet, F5 and Netbox.
  • Extensive experience with automation, Ansible and Python is a plus
  • Experience with network automation and the tools used.
  • Knowledge and expertise of BGP-EVPN and VXLAN protocols
  • Knowledge of VMware virtual networking
  • Knowledge of Agile/ITILv3 processes, experience working in scrum teams.
  • Proactive and independent working attitude
  • Standby or on-call duties and work outside office hours are part of the position.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch (minimum level B2) and English are required.
