Job Summary:

A position is available in the Neural Engineering Core of the Neurotechnology Center. The Neural Engineering Core provides a range of engineering support to research programs in neuroscience and other fields at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. We seek an individual with a background in computer science or engineering, and particularly with experience in cloud computing, software development, data analysis and data management, to lead and assist on multiple projects. The employee will work with multiple members of the Core and report to Gidon Felsen (Director, NTC Neural Engineering Core and Professor, Department of Physiology and Biophysics). This individual will interact with faculty and staff from multiple units. Eagerness and ability to quickly learn new concepts, and to work well within multiple teams, are highly important. 

Key Responsibilities\:  

50% - Cloud Computing and Research\:

  • Develops a range of cloud computing strategies and cloud-based solutions for data management of research projects, in collaboration with faculty and staff
  • Implements cloud computing solutions for research projects and the Neural Engineering Core
  • Maintains and updates applied cloud-based strategies for research and resolves issues as they arise

 

20% - Data analysis\:

  • Works in collaboration with researchers and independently to design and implement data analysis for projects

20% - Software and hardware analysis and support\:

  • Assesses needs, evaluates and acquires software and hardware
  • Collaborates with Core members and researchers to integrate custom software and hardware

10% - Operational support\:

  • Estimates and tracks time and costs and supports invoicing for projects

Work Location:

Onsite – This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado. The role may allow for limited remote work after the orientation and training periods.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, neuroscience or related field. 
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, neuroscience or related field 
  • Two (2) years of experience in an information technology role, in an experimental, research, or engineering environment

Competencies\: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with the development and implementation of cloud storage and data management strategies for complex research data sets
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Coding experience (python, Matlab, C) 
  • Experience with database management 
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers and/or embedded systems (e.g., Arduino) 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution 
  • Outstanding customer service skills 
  • Demonstrated commitment to advance diversity and inclusion

The starting salary range for this position has been established as:

 $73,486 - $93,474

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
