The Opportunity:
Join UCF IT’s cloud team, a dedicated group responsible for managing the university’s central Azure infrastructure that supports multiple departments and enterprise services. As a Cloud Engineer II, you will play a key role in building, maintaining, and securing Azure resources, ensuring the stability, security, and automation of our cloud environment. This is a hands-on role that involves working with infrastructure as code, security operations, and collaboration with teams across the university to optimize cloud performance and cost efficiency.
Classification Title: Cloud Computing Engineer II
Responsibilities:
Designs, deploys, and maintains virtual machines, storage, networking, and other infrastructure components in Azure. Stays current with Azure advancements, implementing best practices to optimize performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Develops and maintains Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate Azure resource provisioning and configuration. Continuously improves automation processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and consistency.
Implements security policies, monitors for vulnerabilities, and applies patches to maintain a secure Azure environment. Responds to security incidents, audits configurations, and ensures compliance with UCF policies and best practices.
Provides technical support and guidance to internal teams and stakeholders regarding Azure services and best practices. Resolves support tickets and collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement solutions.
Adheres to UCF Infrastructure ITIL processes, such as change management procedures, ensuring all planned changes are properly reviewed, documented, and communicated. Coordinates with stakeholders to minimize disruption and ensure smooth implementation of changes.
Ensures that documentation, including infrastructure configurations, procedures, and standards, is accurate and up to date. Contributes to knowledge-sharing efforts by creating and maintaining technical documentation for internal use.
Continuously monitors system performance, availability, and security using Azure tools and third-party solutions. Diagnoses and resolves issues related to Azure infrastructure to ensure high availability and reliability.
Evaluates new Azure features, tools, and methodologies to improve efficiency, security, and performance. Provides recommendations on optimizing cloud resources, cost management, and automation strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with public cloud platforms (Azure preferred, but AWS or GCP experience is also valuable).
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or PowerShell.
Familiarity with ITIL best practices for change management and ITSM such as ServiceNow.
Understanding of cloud security best practices and experience implementing security controls.
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
This position may be expected to work a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
