Cloud Engineer (AWS) (Europe)

As a Cloud Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, deploying, and maintaining the AWS cloud infrastructure for an innovative edge-vision gaming prototype. You will work on a proof-of-concept system that automates scoring and enhances spectator engagement, taking ownership of end-to-end deployment. This part-time role provides an opportunity to shape a lightweight, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solution, collaborating closely with computer vision and development teams. Your work will ensure the system runs reliably with low latency while maintaining strong security and monitoring standards, all within a fast-paced, remote-first European environment.

Accountabilities

• Collaborate with the Computer Vision team to support model training and ensure accurate in-game event detection.
• Design and deploy the full AWS infrastructure for the proof-of-concept using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Implement key AWS services, including Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Kinesis Video Streams, Kinesis Data Streams, and Rekognition.
• Build and maintain the event pipeline, ensuring efficient, reliable, and low-latency operation from video ingestion to game engine consumption.
• Configure authentication and authorization using Amazon Cognito and secure all endpoints with TLS/HTTPS, following IAM best practices.
• Set up monitoring and alerting using Amazon CloudWatch, addressing latency, error rates, and architectural concerns like event ordering and idempotency.

• 3+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying solutions on AWS.
• Expertise in serverless architecture: Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Kinesis (KVS/KDS), and Rekognition.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills using Terraform or AWS CDK.
• Proficiency in Python for Lambda functions and automation scripts.
• Familiarity with API Gateway for both HTTP and WebSocket-based real-time communication.
• Nice-to-have: experience with real-time streaming, ML-based services (Rekognition, SageMaker, OpenCV), event-driven architectures, AWS cost optimization, and Cognito-based authentication and access control.

• Remote-first work mode across Europe, allowing flexible scheduling.
